Anti-nuclear activist Udayakumar wins Nuclear-Free Future Award

Madurai: S P Udayakumar, convenor of the People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy in India, has been selected for the 2025 Nuclear-Free Future Award in the Resistance category for his efforts toward a nuclear-free world.
Udayakumar was key in mobilizing a 2011 protest against the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, uniting local people, fisherfolk, and farmers. He has since worked to raise awareness in southern India about the dangers of nuclear power, including radiation risks and ecological damage.
The Nuclear-Free Future Awards, established in 1998 by German journalist and activist Claus Biegert, recognize individuals working to eliminate uranium mining, nuclear weapons, and nuclear energy. The 2025 awards ceremony will be held on March 4 in New York City, USA.
