MADURAI: A total of 564 research scholars and 70 medal winners from degree and PG courses received their certificates at the 52nd

annual convocation

held at

Madurai Kamaraj University

(MKU) here on Monday.

Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit presided over the convocation while chairman of the state Lokayukta search committee and former Madras high court judge Justice K Venkataraman was the chief guest.

While delivering the chief guest address, Venkataraman spoke about how the graduates should act responsibly and how they had to mentally, physically and psychologically get prepared to meet the societal needs. “Education is a companion, which no future can depress, no crime can destroy, no enemy can alienate and no nepotism can enslave,” he said.

Apart from this, a total of 53,914 students from non-autonomous colleges, autonomous colleges and university departments also received degrees in-absentia.
