MADURAI: Two people died and seven others were injured when a private bus carrying a group of tourists rear-ended a truck on the national highway near Othakadai in Madurai on Thursday.
According to the police, the private bus carrying 20 tourists from Cuddalore district was travelling towards Courtallam in Tenkasi district on Thursday morning. When the bus was near the Madurai Bench of Madras high court on the Madurai-Trichy national highway, it rammed into the water tanker. In the impact, bus driver, V Prabu, 37, and K Soundar,41, a passenger, from Nellikuppam in Cuddalore district, died on the spot as they were sitting in the front of the bus.
The injured were identified as P Mahendran, 42, M Murugesan, 40, S Muthukumar, 38, V Natarajan, 41, T Parthasarathy, 39, S Senthil, 39, and V Sureshkumar,43 - all from Nellikuppam. The injured were rushed to Government Rajaji Hospital for treatment. The Othakadai police have registered a case and are investigating.
