A two-wheeler rider and his pillion passenger were injured after debris fell on them from a flyover under construction at Tallakulam outpost on Thursday. They were rushed to Government Rajaji Hospital in an ambulance.

MADURAI: A two-wheeler rider and his pillion passenger were injured after debris fell on them from a flyover under construction at Tallakulam outpost on Thursday. They were rushed to Government Rajaji Hospital in an ambulance.
K Jothi Mastan and Arunachalam were passing under the flyover on their bike when a piece of debris fell on them from above. Eyewitnesses said workers were drilling on the flyover when the debris fell on the riders.

Masthan suffered a shoulder injury while Arunachalam suffered bruises on his hands and legs.
Masthan said he escaped a head injury since he was wearing a helmet. But he could not lift his hands after his shoulder took the impact. The duo preferred a complaint with Tallakulam police station.
K R Raja, a social activist who reported the incident to the media, said those undertaking flyover work are not ensuring sufficient safety measures like barricades due to the lethargic attitude of the authorities and the police.
