Youth was killed 12 days before his body was found in drum in Ludhiana

LUDHIANA: The autopsy report of 20-year-old labourer of Bahadurke road has revealed that he was murdered on December 4, the day he went missing. The report also said Piyush Mandal was assaulted with a blunt weapon multiple times due to which he suffered multiple fractures on head, face and neck which led to his death.
Mandal’s body was found on December 16 from a drum kept on the roof of a rented accommodation in Guru Kripa Colony at Salem Tabri.The drum was sealed with cement. His mother had doubts after she noticed the drum. Later, police were informed.

A board of three doctors, including a forensic expert, conducted an autopsy on Sunday.
Dr Charan Kamal, a forensic expert, said, “Piyush died the same day he went missing. He had injuries on the left side of his head, face, jaw and neck. Due to multiple attacks with a blunt weapon, he suffered multiple fractures which led to his death. His body had decomposed.”
Meanwhile, the police probe so far has not ascertained if Piyush was murdered in the same rented accommodation or somewhere else.
Sub-inspector Harjeet Singh, SHO, Salem Tabri police station, said several labourers lived in the rented accommodation owned by Mandal. One of them had seen the accused — Vivekanand Mandal — taking sacks containing soil to the rooftop.
He said, “It has not been established yet if Vivekanand had allegedly murdered Piyush at the rented accommodation or somewhere else. Some CCTV cameras installed in the area were also scanned however nothing could be found. There are more chances that he allegedly murdered Piyush at the rented accommodation. We are trying to trace the accused who left the city a few days back.”
Two days before Piyush had gone missing, Vivekanand and Sarita had indulged in a spat over some issue following which Vivekanand had beaten her up. During that Piyush came for the rescue of his mother and Piyush had thrashed Vivekanand. Earlier, too Vivekanand used to beat up Sarita and this was the reason Piyush did not like him. It is suspected that as Piyush had thrashed Vivekanand, he took Piyush along to the other house where he murdered him and hid his body in a drum. Salem Tabri police registered a murder case against Vivekanand Mandal.
Vivekanand has been in a live-in relationship with Piyush’s mother Sarita Devi for about 15 years. Sarita Devi was married to Hemant Kumar and they have one son and one daughter from the marriage. However, due to their strained relations, Sarita started living with Hemant’s younger brother Vivekanand along with her children. However Piyush and Vivekanand would often indulge in verbal spats.
