Young Scientist Award for Dr Gurpreet Kaur

Dr Gurpreet Kaur has won the Young Scientist Award at the recently concluded national symposium and eighth annual Congress of the Indian Society for Advancement of Canine Practice organized in Jammu.

LUDHIANA: Dr Gurpreet Kaur, assistant professor of virology in the department of veterinary microbiology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), has won the Young Scientist Award at the recently concluded national symposium and eighth annual Congress of the Indian Society for Advancement of Canine Practice organized at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology at Jammu.

She won the award for her paper titled 'Diagnosis of Canine Parvovirus using Nested-PCR and comparison of blood profile in affected dogs'. The paper was co-authored by Mudit Chandra, Harsimran Kaur, Ramneek and P N Dwivedi. The paper outlined a sensitive molecular diagnostic method for early and specific diagnosis of the disease affecting young dogs and causing high mortality.
Dr Gurpreet Kaur is already one of the winners of FM Burnett Award for team research of Indian Society for Veterinary Immunology and Biotechnology for work pertaining to development of a pen side kit carried out in the department.
Best paper honour for GADVASU professor
Dr JPS Gill, professor and head of veterinary public health, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, has been given Dr SP Singh Best Paper Award by Indian Association of Veterinary Public Health Specialist at ninth annual conference of Indian Association of Veterinary Public Health Specialists (IAVPHS) & National Symposium on Veterinary Public Health: New Horizon for Integrating the Animal The Economic Times, Food Safety and Human Health held at Bombay Veterinary College, Mumbai.
Gill was conferred the award for his research paper titled 'Studies on pesticide residues in market milk and its public health significance'.
