Woman held for threatening Amar Noorie to make son quit singing
Times News NetworkKhanna Police have arrested a woman and booked her associates for allegedly making threat calls to renowned Punjabi singer and actor Amar Noorie, wife of late Punjabi singer Sardool Sikandar. Police said Noorie received a call from a man impersonating a police inspector, who warned her to convince her son, singer Alap Sikandar, to give up his singing career.
Following her complaint, City-2 Khanna Police registered an FIR under sections 351(3) and 204 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and also provided security to the family. Police identified the arrested accused as Sandeep Kaur, a resident of Saidpur village in Sultanpur Lodhi, Kapurthala district. Her accomplices, however, are yet to be identified. Officials said notices have been issued to two additional persons, asking them to join the investigation.Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Mohit Kumar Singla said in her complaint, Amar Noorie stated she received a phone call on Dec 16 from an unidentified number. The caller introduced himself as inspector Gurmeet Singh and began questioning her about her son Alap. The man told her that illegal ammunition had been recovered from her son's vehicle and also mentioned that Alap had performed at a cultural event in Delhi on Dec 7 with singers A P Dhillon and Babbu Mann. According to the DSP, the caller threatened her to convince her son to quit singing and pursue another profession, warning her of dire consequences if she failed to do so.Police said they immediately initiated action after the complaint and arrested one woman in the case. Further investigation is underway to identify the remaining individuals involved in the call.As per available information, after receiving the threat call from the impersonator, Amar Noorie attempted to contact the munshi of the police station concerned as well as a DSP, but neither answered initially. Later, the Munshi took the call and advised her to contact inspector Hardeep Singh, the station house officer (SHO) at City-2 Khanna police station.Police said they are continuing efforts to trace the caller and his associates while ensuring the safety of the family.
