LUDHIANA: ‘‘The play is awesome. I knew the story but these budding doctors have presented it in a different manner.’’ These were the words of Gayatri Bhatia. Gayatri and many such people came to see the three-day musical show, ‘The Wicked’ which started on Tuesday.

Rajinder Pal Singh said that he had seen other plays of the CMC but this was the best one.
Manveer Singh said he found difficult to believe that dresses used in the play were designed by the doctors while Reuden Rajappa said that props used in the play were really good.
The musical was exclusively directed by students and doctors from the college. With Felix Manoharan as the acting director and Jerin Kuruvila as the music director, the production was managed by Dr Sajin G Joseph. There were around 32 students in the show and the rest were involved in its production, designing, sounds, finance and publicity. ‘The Wicked’ is based on a novel by Gregory Maguire and is a prequel to the popular book, ‘The Wizard of Oz’. It is the story of the witches of Oz — Elphaba and Glinda and it conveys the message that good always wins over evil. The lead roles of Elphaba and Glinda were played by Dr. Anu Anna Jacob and by Aditi George, respectively.
The other notable characters of the play included Fiyero (Neerav Aruldas), Nessarose (Dr Pearl Paul), Wizard (Dr Abraham P Abraham) and Madame Morrible (Dr Nina Philip). ‘‘The CMCH was founded as a means of providing quality healthcare to the poor and needy under the patronage of our director, Dr Abraham G Thomas,’’ said intern Felix.
‘‘The proceeds from this year’s musical will be used for treating patients in the intensive care unit. We are inviting sponsors and donations for this worthy cause,’’ said Dr Simi Samuel, a medical intern. With a demanding script, dazzling stage settings, enchanting melodies and special effects, this highly innovative production is a must see for all, said Dr Albert.
