LUDHIANA: Turning the theme of femicide on its head for maximum impact in their skit, got students of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GNIMT) a standing ovation at the youth festival.
Holding up a mirror to male fixation in our society, the skit revolves around male foeticide. The male actor carrying a child has to put up with of his father-in-law's threats of killing his baby boy.

The gripping suspense continues till the end, with the audience sitting on the edge of their seats all the time.
Nikita Sharma of Haibowal, who plays the character of a mother-in-law, says that her daughter-in-law seeks a boon from Lord Brahma to free women from female foeticide and allow male foeticide, which he does.
Parvesh Sharma of New Subhash Nagar, who is the lead actor, says he was initially reluctant to accept the role of a pregnant male as he was worried that his friends would tease him mercilessly. But, he ultimately decided to do it.
Kanwarpal Singh of Model Town, who acts as Lord Brahma, says the play should come as an eye-opener for males who force their wives to opt for femicide. The sensitive issue was presented in a hilarious manner to jolt the males to understand the feelings of expectant mothers.
Narinderpal Singh of Alamgir enjoyed playing a tyrant who tells his pregnant son-in-law that he will kill his child if he is male. "I found my role extremely challenging and interesting. When the team got a standing ovation, I felt I had been amply rewarded for the hard work I had put in this past month.''
Sarabjeet Kaur of Basti Jodhewal said the skit had thrust the males into the shoes of the fair sex, so that they could understand what all they had to undergo. She said the accolades that came their way were reward enough for their ability.
