Ludhiana: The sudden search operation organised by the city police against drug menace in different localities of Shimlapuri created a buzz of a different kind in the city. Aam Aadmi (AAP) MLA from South constituency, Rajinder Pal Kaur Chhina reached the spot and objected to Jyoti Yadav, assistant commissioner of police, industrial area-B, for not informing her prior to the search operation.
The search operation had started from the Atam Nagar constituency, where MLA Kulwant Sidhu joined the team, which included commissioner of police Kaustubh Sharma. After Atam Nagar constituency, the team reached the south constituency.
A video of the conversation between the MLA and ACP also went viral, in which the MLA is seen raising her voice against the ACP. Later, MLA Chhina joined the police in the search operation.
In the video clip, MLA Chhina questions ACP Yadav, “Who is the MLA?”, to which ACP replied that “You are the MLA”. Then Chhina questions “Did you inform me?” to which ACP replied that she was asked by the joint commissioner of police rural to conduct a search operation in the area. Thereafter, Chhina asks her twice in raised voice to answer her question if she informed her. To which ACP again replied that she was asked to visit the area for the operation by JCP and then CP.
Then, Chhina asked what exactly the CP told her. To which the ACP replied, “The CP sir asked me to reach the spot as the team will also reach there.” Chhina again questioned if CP asked to take MLA along during the search operation, to which ACP replied in negative.
When contacted, ACP Yadav said, “I will maintain my dignity and will refrain from commenting.”
MLA Chhina said, “The police officials were conducting search in my area with the MLA of another constituency. Later, we found that the official was not aware that it was my area, which caused the confusion. The official too had agreed that she was unaware of the fact that the area falls under my constituency.”
On asked if it is mandatory to take a MLA along while conducting a search, Chhina said, “It is not mandatory, however, it may bring better results. Being the MLA of the area, we get information from the public about the drugs and crime-prone areas. Therefore, the presence of MLA and our team during the search, makes drive impactful.”
Joint CP, rural, Ravcharan Singh Brar said some suspects were apprehended who were released after questioning.
