Ludhiana: A local court has sentenced three members of a gang of thieves to 4-year rigorous imprisonment. The court of additional sessions judge Ashok Kapoor also imposed a fine of Rs 8,000 each on three convicts, identified as Akashdeep Singh of Rahon road, Jasvir Singh of Hoshiarpur and Vikas Kumar Sheenu of Nakodar in Jalandhar.
On December 18, 2018, division number one police had booked the trio under Sections 379 (theft), 401 (belonging to gang of thieves), 413 (habitually dealing in stolen property) of the IPC after parts of stolen vehicle were recovered from them.
As per the prosecution, Jaspreet Singh, in his statement, had said his motorcycle, parked in a street, was stolen on December 11, 2018. The motorcycle was registered in the name of Sandeep Singh of Sarhal Mundi in Phillaur tehsil in Jalandhar, which he had purchased, but had not registered it in his name till then. Later, the accused were arrested in this case. After completion of investigation and other formalities, the challan against accused was filed in the court.
During trial, the accused pleaded false implication.
The complainant had said on March 6, 2019, he was called at division number 4 police station where he identified the petrol tank of his stolen motorcycle.
The court held that the counsel for the accused cross-examined the above said witnesses at considerable length, but nothing material could be extracted from their cross examination, which could be of any help to accused either to disprove the recovery or shatter testimony of above these witnesses.
