Ludhiana: Police have arrested a house owner in connection with the fatal beating of an unidentified man in Kochar Market on Thursday night. The deceased was allegedly tied to an electric pole and assaulted by the house owner and his associates.The arrested accused is Inderpal Singh, a furniture trader and resident of New Lajpat Nagar, Model Gram. He was booked under charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The police have also booked Inderpal Singh's son, Tarandeep Singh, who remains at large.The incident resulted in two sets of charges being filed: Based on the complaint of Inderpal Singh, the police booked the unidentified man for house trespassing. Inderpal Singh claimed he was woken by noise, found the man in his house attempting to flee, and suspected him of being a thief.Police stated that the unidentified man was subsequently tied to an electric pole with his hands bound and was "mercilessly beaten" by the house owner and other residents. The victim reportedly began losing consciousness when a local resident informed the police control room. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Investigation and IdentificationInvestigating Officer ASI Rakesh Kumar confirmed the arrest of Inderpal Singh. Efforts to identify the deceased man have so far been unsuccessful. The police stated that if the victim's family is not traced within 72 hours, an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
