4-year-old killed after being hit by speeding school bus
Times News NetworkLudhiana: A speeding school bus hit a bike near Lopon village of Samrala on Monday morning, killing a 4.5-year-old boy. His mother and uncle (mother’s brother) suffered injuries. The school bus driver escaped from the spot after the incident. He did shift school children into another bus before doing so. The victims were taken to hospital, where man’s condition is said to be critical. Police said that the bus was ferrying 10 students, who were unhurt.The deceased boy was identified as Yashraj Singh of Khanna. Those injured are his mother Taranjit Kaur, 32, and uncle Inderjit Singh of Samrala. Taranjit had gone to her parents’ house in Samrala with Yashraj. On Monday, her brother Inderjit was going to drop them back home in Khanna on his bike.Police said that when they were travelling, a speeding school van of Satya Bharti School, Madhpur coming from Beeja side rammed into them. The boy died on the spot and the other two suffered severe injuries. Passersby rushed them to hospital and informed the police.Onlookers added that at the time of the incident, visibility was low due to dense fog. Sub-inspector Rao Varinder Singh, SHO, Samrala police station, said fog could be the reason for the accident. Police have registered a case under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 304-A (Causing death by negligence), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of IPC against the unidentified driver of the school bus.
