Three-day educational fair held at two government schools

LUDHIANA: To spread awareness on sexual and mental health, a three-day-long

educational fair

was held at two government schools and a unit of Vardhman Group located on Chandigarh road in collaboration with Action India.


Vardhman Group under its CSR initiatives has been taking measures to uplift the lives of people and promote education. An 18-member team of Action India and CSR team of Vardhman took this initiative to spread awareness among people and bust some myths associated with mensuration. On the first two days, the fair was organised at Government Senior Secondary School, Kasabad, and Government High School, Lohara. The students of classes VI and above, teachers and parents actively participated in the event and encouraged the team to organize more sessions like it.

There were eight stalls set up on the occasion, where emphasis was laid on menstrual health besides explaining the cycle of menstruation and the right ways to dispose of used sanitary napkins.

The schools’ management committee members, along with Vardhman team, led the initiative and invited more and more people to participate in the fair. B B Peer from Vardhman Spinning and

inaugurated the fair inside the unit, where girls residing in hostels, along with families residing in workers’ colonies, were given a tour of human life cycle via charts, posters and a variety of games.

Topics like depression, anxiety, addiction and OCD were discussed through interactive games. The unique aspect of the fair was that everything was visualized using posters to encourage people who felt uncomfortable to talk about it. The aim of the event was to bring behavioural changes in people and sensitize them to speak about their concerns.

Students wrote inspirational messages and shared their stories with the team, expressing how they were breaking the myths and educating other members of their families. The team also guided people about the medicinal properties of some herbs.
