LUDHIANA: Six persons died whereas three others including a three-year-old boy were injured in three road accidents in the city on Wednesday.
Four persons died, three on the spot, after a truck hit two pedestrians, a cyclist and scooterist near Sherpur chowk at around 8.30pm on Wednesday.
One of the deceased has been identified as Raja Ram, who was admitted in SPS Apollo.
The truck, going from Sherpur road to Samrala Chowk, first hit two pedestrians, then a motorcycle and then a bicycle.
The driver of the truck and conductor fled from the spot leaving the vehicle behind. Earlier in the day, two persons were injured after they met with a road accident at Focal Point area.
In the another accident, one Israr Ahmed of Sherpur Khurd and his daughter-in-law Khushnuma died on the spot whereas her son Farman (3) suffered minor injuries after the two-wheeler they were riding on was hit by a Tata 407 vehicle at Basti chowk area. Basti Jodhewal police have been hunting for the accused whose vehicle number was noted down. The deaths also sparked protests by residents in the area.
