Teachings of Guru Nanak: Contests give students a learning opportunity
Ludhiana: The 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev have come as an opportunity for students of government senior secondary schools of the district to showcase their talent in essay writing, quiz and book review competitions.
District education officer (secondary) Swaranjit Kaur said knowledge about history and religion would prove very beneficial for the students. She said it would also help them connect with the religion as they would have detailed understanding about it.
She said to mark the occasion, several religious as well as social functions are being organised in the state. She said the Punjab government has already issued a calendar in this regard and all the activities are being organised as planned.
The district education officer said the students gave priority to writing essays about the life and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev.
The winners of district-level competitions were awarded prizes at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Cemetery Road, by the school principal and staff.
In district-level essay writing competition for the secondary level, Sehajpreet Kaur from Ikolahi village, Anupreet Kaur from Dangora and Simranjit Kaur from Sihala village stood first, second and third, respectively. Similarly, Dhamana from Pakhowal, Mamta Devi from Bagli Kalan and Sanjana Negi from Miller Ganj stood first, second and third, respectively, in the senior secondary level.
In book review competition, Annie from Government High School Kohara stood first, Vandana from Government Senior Secondary School Manki was second and Amritpreet Singh from Government High School Ghulal, Navjot Kaur from Government Senior Secondary School Engine Shed and Simrandeep Kaur from Rampur school bagged joint third prize.
In quiz competition, Dilpuneet Kaur, Amanjot Kaur and Manpreet Kaur from Government Senior Secondary School Talwandi Rai won first; Varinderpal Singh, Ajay Kumar and Amit Kumar from Government Senior Secondary School Jagraon stood second; while Harmanpreet Kaur and Sneh Lata from Government Senior Secondary School Threeke stood third.
