LUDHIANA: Panic gripped the Samrala bypass area on the Ludhiana-Chandigarh National Highway after the bullet-ridden dead body of a taxi driver was found in the early hours of Saturday. The deceased was identified as Ravi Kumar of Chandigarh.
Ravi Kumar had told his family on Friday night that he had to take passengers from Chandigarh to Ludhiana.
His father, Jai Kumar, said that when his son called at 4 am on Saturday morning, he was very upset. He added that after 15 minutes, his son called again and told them that he had been shot.
The father of the deceased said that he asked his son to send his location, and when they reached the spot, they found his son had died. He added that he has no enmity with anyone and Ravi was the only son of the family.
DSP Samrala, Tarlochan Singh, said that after getting the information, the police reached the spot and the matter is being probed.
Local sources said that the taxi of the deceased was missing from the spot, which indicates that the accused may have looted the vehicle.
