Ludhiana: While a police observer and a general observer was already deputed for the parliamentary polls by the Election Commission of India (ECI), now a special observer has been deputed by the ECI for overseeing the poll prepapredness in the constituency. The special observer Raghav Chandra, a retired IAS officer after reaching held a meeting with the returning officer, police officials and assistant returning officers and issued necessary directions.
During the meeting, Chandra took stock of the poll preparations in the constituency and directed that the model code of conduct should be so that the upcoming elections are carried out in a free, fair, transparent and peaceful atmosphere. He although expressed satisfaction over the poll preparations in the constituency but directed the officials that they should try and ensure 100 percent voter participation in the elections. Chandra also directed the police officials to ensure and establish direct contact with voters of areas. He directed the police officials to ensure that there is no fear in the mind of voters of such areas.
Among others district election officer cum deputy commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal, assistant returning officers and police officials also briefed the special general observer about the ongoing poll preparations by them. They assured Chandra that the upcoming elections would be carried out in a peaceful atmosphere. Others who also met Chandra included all returning officers and nodal officers and senior police officials.
