Ludhiana: Education minister Daljeet Singh Cheema on Friday evening announced holidays in primary sections of all government and aided schools on Saturday and Monday keeping in view the cold weather conditions.
On Thursday, TOI had carried a news article highlighting the plight of students studying in government primary schools. It was highlighted that in many schools, students have to sit on mats, as schools don't have sufficient desks.
At palces, students were attending classes in ther corridor because of shortage of classrooms. In other schools, students did not have proper uniforms, and some were attending school without even shoes on.
At Government Primary School (Kucha No 16), Fieldganj, the school lacked a building less and teachers had arranged for a tarpaulin sheet as a makeshift roof. On Friday evening, education minister Daljeet Singh Cheema announced, "All government and aided primary schools across the state will remain close on Saturday and Monday on account of severe cold wave prevailing in the state. Other schools would be open as per routine."
