LUDHIANA: Hectic activities started on the Union Government's proposal to develop this as a solar city. The private consultant appointed by the Centre gave a presentation to the officials of various departments on Wednesday. He also handed them performas for the required information to be submitted in 10 days.
The Union government would set up solar systems to provide lightening in the city so that energy consumption could be saved or reduced.

A private consultant appointed by the bureau of energy efficiency (BEE), Government of India, Ramchandran paid a visit to discuss with the departments concerned to discuss and develop the project's master plan.
He gave a presentation in front of MC officers, including commissioner AK Sinha, superintendent engineer (SE) Adarsh Singla, executive engineer (XEN) HC Salaria and others from the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB), Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA), Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority.
Later on, he handed over the performa regarding the highlights of the projects and seeking the feedback of these departments so that a detailed master plan could be prepared. The Centre is expected to release a grant of Rs 50 lakh for the project, which would not help to save power consumption but also play a major role in the area's development.
The MC had already constituted a team comprising its 15 officers and elected representatives to give the required information to the consultant.
