Shiromani Akali Dal credits people’s unity for land pooling scheme rollback in Punjab.
Ludhiana: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday held a press conference where they congratulated the people of Punjab for uniting as one to force against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to withdraw the land pooling scheme. The senior leaders, while addressing the press conference, said the party would come up with a people's programme shortly to take the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to task for failing to implement promises made to the people of the state. They claimed it was due to pressure created by SAD, with the help of farmers across the state, that the ruling party rolled back the scheme, while other political parties are trying to grab the credit for doing nothing in this case.Addressing a joint press conference here, senior SAD leaders, including Hira Singh Gabria, Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Ranjit Singh Dhillon, and Bhupinder Singh Bhinda, also appreciated the leadership of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal for holding repeated ‘dharnas' to create a tsunami against the AAP government. They opposed the acquisition of 65,000 acres in the state and also exposed the scheme for the land grab it was. The party announced a ‘morcha' from September 1 that would forced the AAP to eat humble pie, the leaders asserted.Meanwhile, when queried about the faction in SAD which came into being recently, Hira Singh Gabria said its president Giani Harpreet Singh neither took the BJP-led Union government to task for refusing to resolve the grievances of the people of Punjab nor castigated the AAP government for failing the people of the state. "This makes it clear that Giani Harpreet's agenda is not to safeguard the interests of Punjab or its people. He only wants to take on the Shiromani Akali Dal and weaken it on behalf of the parties of Delhi."The leaders also made it clear that Punjab had witnessed the birth of many parties and that the new outfit would be soundly rejected by the people. He also called upon the new outfit not to use SAD's name, stating it should try to go to the people on its own name and identity instead of confusing the people by taking the name of the SAD.
