Shaheed Sukhdev's family leaves for Lal Chowk to unfurl national flag

LUDHIANA: The

relatives of Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar

joined by members of several organisations began their

rath yatra from Ludhiana to Srinagar

on Sunday. This yatra after passing through various cities of Punjab and Jammu Kashmir will reach

Srinagar’s Lal Chowk

on Tuesday, August 15 where the participants will unfurl a national flag on the occasion of Independence Day. Close to two dozen organisations under the banner of Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar Memorial Trust started the

procession from Naughera

, the

ancestral home of Shaheed Sukhdev

from where they marched towards Sangla Shiwala Mandir and other parts of the city.

Giving more information Ashok Thapar, president of trust and general secretary Sandeep Thapar (both descendants of Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar) said that the yatra is being organised to honour the martyrs and India’s armed forces that are protecting our borders from our enemies. They also said that the yatra will pass through Phillaur,Phagwara,Jalandhar,Pathankot, Jammu and finally reach Srinagar on 15th of August. Both of them also informed that through their yatra and hoisting national flag at Lal Chowk they want to tell their fellow citizens that Kashmir is an integral part of India.
Amongst others who welcomed the Rath Yatra in different parts of city included MLAs Surinder Dawar and Rakesh Pandey, Mahant Narayan Puri of Sangla Shivala Mandir, Sanjeev Ghanoli and Rajiv Tandon from Shivsena (Punjab), Rakesh Arora,Pawan Garg,Lucky Kapoor,Kapil Kishore Gupta,Sanjeev Aggarwal,Dinesh Aggarwal,Pali Sehajpal and others.
