Ludhiana: Days after the arrest of two assistant superintendents of Ludhiana Central Jail, Satnam Singh and Gagan Sharma for their involvement in a drugs and mobile smuggling racket, police are investigating the “possible” role of another senior jail official. Police said that the official was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) in 2022 for his connivance in a similar nexus in another Punjab jail.
On Jan 22, division number 7 police arrested jail inmates and two assistant superintendents of Ludhiana jail, Satnam Singh and Gagan Sharma, who were remanded in judicial custody on Sunday. Police also arrested a woman named Mandeep Kaur of Taran Tarn, wife of Ludhiana jail inmate Mukhtiar Singh. Police said that the woman used to provide drugs and mobile phones to officials, who would deliver it to the inmates. Police also arrested inmates Ashu Arora, Sahil Jindal, Ram Rattan, Mukhtiar Singh, Vijay Kumar, Mohammad Sehzad, Karamjeet Singh and Swaran Singh, who were getting the contraband delivered.
Police said that the inmates were making online payments to the accused.
