LUDHIANA: Gurjot Singh, deputy district education officer (Secondary) and head of the committee constituted by the deputy commissioner on the complaint of parents to check the affiliation and fee structure of
Ryan International School, Dugri has found that the school does not conform to set standards. The fee charged from parents is exorbitant, considering the facilities provided to students.
Worse, the school is not even affiliated to any board and does not fulfill the conditions required to gain such an affiliation.
According to the deputy DEO, "I have been to the school for inspection and it is not affiliated to any board. Besides, it does not have a playground. I will forward my report to the DC on Monday."
Notably, the District Education Office was asked to prepare a list of schools flouting the norms of the Right To Education Act, which includes the provision of a playground and land up to 1.5 acres. The district education department claimed to have closed 62 primary and middle schools flouting the RTE norms. Besides, a list of 303 secondary schools flouting norms has been forwarded to the education board. But the DEO has no idea if Ryan International School, Dugri figured in the list of schools which were forced to close down.
District Education officer (primary) Ranjeet Singh said, "Ryan International is a Christian minority school and RTE is a bit lenient on minority schools."
