Rs 40.87 crore cash, goods seized since inception of mode code: DGP Kapoor
CHANDIGARH: Haryana Police on Saturday claimed to have confiscated goods and cash worth Rs over Rs 40.87 crore, including narcotics, , liquor, and precious metals since inception of model code of conduct (MCC) in the state for Haryana general assembly elections.
Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapoor said that between August 16 and September 28, the police confiscated more than Rs16.39 crore in cash. Additionally, 2,91,368 litres of liquor, valued at approximately Rs10.42 crore, were seized. The police also intercepted 2,920 kg of narcotics with an estimated value of Rs8.69 crore. Furthermore, 45.28 kg of precious metals, including gold and silver, were confiscated. Police teams also seized 15 items being offered as inducements, valued at Rs1.76 lakh.
Kapoor emphasized that Haryana Police are fully prepared to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election. To safeguard the process, 159 interstate and 170 internal checkpoints have been established. A total of 10,495 polling stations have been set up across the state, with 20,629 polling booths, all of which will have sufficient police presence. Out of these, 3,460 polling stations have been marked as sensitive, while 138 have been classified as vulnerable, where additional police forces will be deployed.
He also highlighted the deployment of 500 flying squads, 457 static surveillance teams, and 32 quick response teams. On the matter of licensed firearms, it was reported that out of a total of 1,32,225 issued arms licenses out of which 1,15,531 licensed weapons have already been deposited with the police due to election protocols. So far, 54 licensed firearms have been confiscated for MCC violations, and 1,080 licenses have been cancelled.
