PATIALA: The
Patiala district
administration has enough funds to deal with Covid-19 crisis. The officials claimed that Rs 2 crore has been disbursed by the government and the amount is being used by the administration and the government medical college. Besides this, the district Red-Cross society has got Rs 2 lakh as donation.
The district administration is on its toes to provide 6-month ration to BPL families, daily wagers, migrant workers and others. There are over 5 lakh people in Patiala district who would face starvation if they are not provided with food.
Patiala
deputy commissioner Kumar Amit said, "70 per cent of the 2.10 lakh persons have been provided with ration under the national food supply (NFS) scheme."
He said there were approximately 5.5 lakh BPL families working as labourers, daily wagers.
The officials claimed that the Patiala district consisted of around 19.5 lakh population, including 4.4 lakh in
Patiala city
.
Kumar Amit said, "We have Rs 2 crore as government fund and Rs 2 lakh have been donated to the Red-Cross society. Ration and medicines are being provided to the needy. We have started distribution of ration among the BPL families and covered more than 70% under the NFS mission. The remaining 30% will be distributed till Saturday. Food packets will also be made for daily wagers."
