Residents get fire safety tips as mayor flags off awareness rally

Ludhiana: In a bid to spread public awareness on fire safety, mayor Inderjit Kaur launched the fire safety week at the fire brigade headquarters near the railway station on Tuesday. The programme was launched in the presence of MC assistant commissioner Neeraj Jain, assistant divisional fire officer (ADFO) Jaswinder Singh, other civic officials and fire-fighters.As part of the initiative, the mayor flagged off an awareness rally to sensitise residents about fire safety measures. The rally was organised on the theme "Engage, educate and empower people to enhance safety" and passed through various parts of the city, including Railway Station Road, Mall Road, Gill Road, Ferozepur Road and Jagraon Bridge.During the event, mayor Inderjit Kaur, along with other officials and firefighters, observed two minutes' silence to pay tribute to fire-fighters who lost their lives in the line of duty.ADFO Jaswinder Singh said fire safety week is observed across the country from April 14 to April 20 every year to commemorate lives lost in the devastating fire and subsequent explosions that took place on April 14, 1944, at the Victoria Dock at Mumbai Port.Assistant commissioner Neeraj Jain and ADFO Jaswinder Singh said the weeklong programme is being organised on the directions of mayor Inderjit Kaur and MC commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta. They added that the MC fire brigade wing has planned several activities during the week to spread awareness. These activities include training exercises, mock drills at public places and hospitals, blood donation camps, and competitions in schools and educational institutions.Addressing residents, mayor Inderjit Kaur urged residents to strictly follow fire safety norms and install proper fire safety equipment in their properties to prevent any untoward incidents.MSID:: 130259383 413 |
