Resident charges at stray dogs with iron rod, booked for cruelty
Times News NetworkLudhiana: Division number 2 police booked a man for beating up stray dogs with an iron rod in Islamganj area. The incident was captured in a CCTV camera installed near the spot. The dogs were rescued with the intervention of a few passersby. After the video of the incident went viral, the accused Gurjot Singh released a video apologising for his act but police registered a case against him.An FIR has been lodged on the statement of Raj Kanwar Singh of Daljit Nagar, Barewal road, who is a member of People For Animals (PFA). Raj Kanwar Singh said that he had gone to Islamganj to buy medicines when he saw a man beating up two street dogs with an iron rod. He said that one of the dogs suffered injuries and he took it to a veterinary doctor, where it was being treated. CCTV footage shows one of the dogs escaping the attack, while the other gets injured. A man present there stopped the accused and rescued the dogs.Investigation officer from division number 2 police station, sub-inspector Didar Singh said that a case was registered under Section 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle etc) of the IPC and Section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty To Animals Act against the accused, who is yet to be arrested. Meanwhile, Gurjot Singh released a video on social media apologising for the act. He admitted that he should not have beaten up the dogs. He also said that the dogs would often bark at him and chase him as he crossed by on his scooter. Gurjot claimed that once, as the dogs chased him, he was about to fall down and hit the dogs in anger.
