Remembering the legend: Shinda evoked at city event
Ludhiana: Legendary Punjabi singer Surinder Shinda, whose recent demise came as a blow to his fans and city residents, was on Monday remembered at the Ishmeet Singh Music Institute here.The institute director, Charan Kamal Singh felicitated Shinda’s wife, Joginder Kaur, and son, Maninder, and expressed grief on his demise by saying that the music world had suffered a great loss by the death of the famous Punjabi folk singer. While he remembered Shinda’s booming voice, he also praised his rich songwriting, adding that today’s singers should take inspiration from him.Raikot MLA, Hakam Singh Thekedar also offered flowers of devotion at the event.Dr Gurbhajan Singh Gill shared his more than three-decade-long memories of the time he spent with Shinda. He said Shinda’s songs were aimed at betterment of the society, and that he had a quality of giving and receiving love. He also recalled that Shinda had done countless performances in the country and abroad along with many other artists.The institute students also performed his famous songs such as ‘Badla Le Leyin Sohaneya’, ‘Dekh Ke Yaar Banaya Kar’, ‘Do Ooth Wale’, ‘Loona De’, and ‘Ucha Dar Babe Nanak Da’.
