LUDHIANA: To pay his respect to superintendent of police
Baljeet Singh, who gave his life fighting terrorists in Gurdaspur last month, a city resident has decided to put up hoardings in martyr's name.
Hardeep Singh, a businessman and resident of Gil Road, believes that treatment of a hero should be given to Baljeet Singh. Hardeep plans to put up big hoardings across the city showing the picture of the cop with his last message: "I will now rest only after wiping out these terrorists".
Talking to TOI, Hardeep said he had watched the entire encounter coverage on his television set. "This brave cop was at the forefront carrying out the operation. He was engaging the terrorists in talks and was leading the police team. He kept fighting till his very end after being hit by bullets. From that day on I wanted to do something to commemorate his bravery," he said.
He added,"Generally the sepoys are killed and senior officers take care of the things from the control rooms only. Even the SWAT team has said Baljeet Singh kept the terrorists engaged for a long time and even killed one of them when he got a chance. His father too had sacrificed his life for the country. So I thought that I should put hoardings at prominent places in the city so that people can see and appreciate the officer's sacrifice. An officer is known by the way he serves his country and a country is known by how it treats is martyrs. If we do not treat our heroes aptly then who will ever think of sacrificing his or her life for the nation?"
Hardeep already has put a hoarding on Satpaul Mittal Road (Malhar Road) and plans to put more such hoardings in Sarabha Nagar main market and block (I) market along with some other areas as well. "I hope that more and more people join in giving tribute to the brave officer," he added.
