Raj woman booked for ₹2cr extortion bid from ex-hubby

Ludhiana: PAU police have booked a Rajasthan-based woman and her father for trying to extort Rs 2 crore from her former husband. The FIR has been lodged after a nine-month-long inquiry.The FIR has been lodged against Priti Bansal and her father Mahaveer Prasad Jain of Madhavpuri of Rajasthan on the complaint of Tarsem Lal of Rishi Nagar.Tarsem said his son Deepak Bansal had got married to Priti in 2013. The couple has a son and a daughter from the marriage. However, due to their strained relations, Deepak and Priti had a mutual divorce in October 2018. In the court, the custody of both the children was given to Deepak.He said later in 2021, Priti again solemnized marriage with Deepak by threatening to implicate him in a rape case. Deepak and Priti lived together for three months, but again parted ways. She left the house while the kids stayed with Deepak. Meanwhile, Deepak relocated to the US in September 2022 while the kids stayed with the grandparents. Meanwhile, Priti visited them in the house on the pretext of meeting the children, but took them along and later demanded Rs 2 crore to send the kids back.A complaint was lodged with the police by Tarsem Lal on October 28, 2022 after which an inquiry was marked.Sub-inspector Rajinderpal Singh, SHO, PAU police station, said the police have lodged an FIR under Section 384 (extortion) of the IPC. An audio recording of the accused demanding extortion was provided as an evidence.
