LUDHIANA: Punjab cabinet Ministers Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal and Gurmeet Singh Khudian on Friday paid tributes to renowned folk singer
Surinder Shinda during Antim Ardas for the departed soul.
Prominent personalities including those from the music industry attended the event to pay their tribute to the folk singer.
Cabinet minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal while addressing the gathering said that the state government was stood by the family during this hour of grief.
Chief minister Bhagwant Mann had also met with the grief-stricken family to share his thought over the sad demise of legendary singer. He said that Surinder Shinda's songs melt in the ears like honey adding that he was the symbol of such a golden era of music when singing was holding significant role in the society.
He further mentioned that if Panchayat of village Ayali provides land, the state government would build memorial-cum-museum as a tribute to folk singer.
The minister also announced to give a grant worth Rs. Five lakhs from his discretionary funds for the construction of this memorial. He further stated that Surinder Shinda raised the flag of folk singing with his powerful voice. Sharing his companionship with the late singer, Dhaliwal said that Chinda would always attend annual fair in his native village Jagdev Kalan.
