LUDHIANA: Two days after three robbers struck at a bank in Bagli Kalan Village of the Samrala area, Khanna police arrested all three of them and recovered Rs. 8.75 lakhs from them. The arrested accused were identified as 27-year-old Amritpal Singh of Riar in the Ajnala area of Amritsar, 22-year-old Gurmeen Singh of Kotli in the Ajnala area, and 20-year-old Jagdish Singh of Sarai in Amritsar. The recoveries from them included Rs. 8.75 lakh, a second-hand Audi car, and a motorcycle.
Police said that on June 11, the manager of the Punjab and Sind Bank, Village Bagli Kalan branch, informed them that three unknown persons had committed a robbery of Rs 15,92,500 at gunpoint from their bank. It added that the police teams, along with senior police officers, reached the spot and, considering the seriousness of the incident, lodged a case under sections 392 (robbery), 397 (robbery or dacoity, with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC, and sections of the Arms Act at the Samrala Police station against three unknown persons, and the investigation of the case was carried out.
Addressing media persons at Khanna on Friday, SSP Khanna Amneet Kondal said that during the investigation, special teams from Samrala, Machiwara Sahib, and Doraha police stations, CIA (Crime Investigating Agency) staff Khanna, and the technical cell were formed to trace the unknown persons. She added that these teams carried out the investigation by technical and scientific means and scanned CCTV footage of around 100 km area.
Police said that during the investigation, the motorcycle used by the accused in this incident was spotted and recovered from Ludhiana city. It added that during further investigation, it came to light that after abandoning the motorcycle used by the accused in Ludhiana, they bought a second-hand Audi car from Jalandhar and escaped.
The SSP said that Khanna police and AGTF (Anti Gangster Task Force) teams worked on the backward and forward linkages and on June 13 arrested the accused persons and recovered cash and the Audi car from their possession.
She added that during the investigation, it was revealed that the accused are habitual criminals and, before this incident, they had robbed three petrol pumps in Adampur and Phillaur in the Jalandhar (Rural) area at gunpoint.
Police said that the interrogation of the accused is still ongoing and more important revelations are likely to be made.
