Punjab: Groom to be calls of wedding for unmet demands; faces FIR

LUDHINA: A Patiala based groom to be and his brother, have been booked by the Ludhiana police as they called off the wedding which was scheduled for February 25. The victim alleged that days before the wedding the accused asked them to shift the wedding venue from Ludhiana to Patiala and also increased the numbers of guests. As they showed helplessness in meeting their demands, the accused called off the wedding.

On the complaint of Tara Chand Joyia, a resident of Islam Ganj, Division Number 2 police have registered an FIR against the groom-to-be, Rahul Chayal, and his brother, Monty Chayal.

The complainant said that his daughter got engaged to Rahil two years ago and their wedding was scheduled for February 25. It was decided that the baraat would come to Ludhiana from Patiala. All the arrangements, be it booking the marriage palace and catering etc was done by them.

He added, a week before the wedding day, the groom’s family changed the plan and insisted they hold a wedding function in Patiala, instead of Ludhiana. Moreover, they pressurized to increase the guests from 50 to 250.

Tara Chand said that they had already informed the groom’s family that they would not be able to make arrangements for more that 50 guests. As he showed helplessness in changing the venue and making arrangements for 200 extra guests, the accused called off the wedding.

Inspector Gurjeet Singh, SHO, Division Number 2 police station, said that a case under Sections 318(2) (cheating), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), and 61(2) (Criminal conspiracy) of BNS, has been registered against the accused who are yet to be arrested.
