LUDHIANA: In order to give Punjab Police officers a new smart look, high-ups of the department have introduced four major changes in the uniform of its officers. The changes would be applicable soon.
According to information, in order to ensure that all cops right from the rank of the constable to the Director General of Police (DGP) in the police force appear smarter, the present Punjab DGP PS Gill has issued some amendments in the uniform of officers.
According to orders issued by the DGP, officers would now sport sleeve logos of Punjab Police. Likewise, as a base for stars in keeping with an officer’s rank, the department would have a blue flash badge that would be made of a blue-coloured blanket.
A new designer scarf for all cops is also in the offing. The DGP has also ordered that cops put the Presidential colour along with their name plate on their uniform. The Presidential colour has being specially allotted by the Union government to the state police for its vigorous fight against terrorism. Apart from Punjab, only cops from police of the states of Maharashtra and Jammu and Kashmir have the privilege of wearing the Presidential colour as part of their uniform, sources added.
Welcoming the move, Satinder Singh, Superintendent of Police (SP), who is president of Punjab Police Service (PPS) Officers Association, said with the new initiative taken by the DGP, another feather would be added to the personality of Punjab Police officers. He said the new uniform would help them in looking more smart and impressive than before.
