Ludhiana: Proclaiming their love for village

LUDHIANA: To showcase their “model” village and also to assert their love for it, a group of youth from Chakar village, with the support of NRIs, have come up with a structure “I Love Chakar” in their village which they claim is the first for any village of the district. The village is known for its infrastructure, developed with the help of NRIs and has a lake, rest house and many gates cum passenger waiting rooms.

The project has been developed by Morgan Lake Sewerage committee, which is a group of about 25 youths of the village.

Sukhjit Singh, president of Morgan Lake Sewerage committee, said that we have got the structure constructed with the help of villagers, including the NRIs. He added that the structure, comprises a cemented base and special plastic structures, which reads “I love Chakar”.

The president of MLSC said that it took about a month for completion of the project and around Rs.50,000 was spent on it. He added that motive of having this structure is that their village is known for being a model village so it should have infrastructure that gives it a different identity.

“The structure is perhaps the only such structure developed by the people in any village of the district,” said Sukhjit Singh. “The project has it’s genesis in 2011 when late Ajmer Singh Sidhu, a reputed NRI, had laid the foundation stone for NRI park. After he died in 2015, people with support of NRIs completed the NRI park on the land donated by NRIs and fulfilled his dream and didn’t use any money of government in that project. Now we have got ‘I Love Chakar’ constructed in front of NRI park”.

The member of MLSC said that they had seen such structure at some other places and wanted to get it developed in their village.

“We had gone to Kullu Manali for holidays and there we saw such a structure and later we also saw it in Chandigarh. After that we thought of having such structure in our village as well. Though Jagraon has a small such structure in the town, but no village has this structure,” said MLSC member Kamaljit Singh. He added that Ludhiana based professionals constructed the structure and it has colourful lights as well.

In the meanwhile, villagers are happy with “I love Chakar” structure that has come up in the village.

“We are proud of the fact that our village has been known as Model Village because of the infrastructure developed by NRIs and is considered to be role model for villages in the state. Before having this structure, we have lake, NRI park, six modern gates cum passengers waiting halls, NRI guest house, CCTVs installed in the village. We also have a health centre being run with full support of NRIs,” said Chamkaur Singh, a prominent villager. He lauded the efforts of the villagers including youth to develop the village into a model one.
