The police have also recovered two sharp edged weapons and a motorcycle used by the accused in the crime.
On September 23, Hathur police had found the dead body of the victim on the banks of Abohar Branch of Sirhind Feeder Canal between Akhara and Dalla villages following which the police registered a murder case against unidentified persons.
Giving details, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ludhiana range Gursharan Singh Sandhu said that victim Satnam Singh, of Bhagoke village in Ferozepur district was killed by Pardeep Singh and his minor accomplice while Rajwinder Kaur was involved in hatching the conspiracy to kill him.
He added that the accused were traced on the basis of the phone calls made and received by the victim on the fateful day from his mobile phone and during questioning, the accused broke down and confessed their crime.
Acording to police, Satnam Singh got engaged to Rajwinder Kaur some time back. “But Rajwinder Kaur did not want to marry Satnam Singh because she liked her cousin Pardeep Singh and wanted to marry him. Rajwinder with the help of Pardeep even tried to break her engagement with Satnam Singh but when they failed, they decided to eliminate Satnam”, said DIG Gursharan Singh Sandhu.

Police said that on September 23, Pardeep called Satnam Singh to Jagraon on the pretext of seeking his advice to get recruited in Indian army. It added that Pardeep and his minor accomplice met Satnam at a juice bar in Jagraon where Pardeep made him drink juice laced with some sedatives after which he became unconscious.
“Following this, both the accused took Satnam Singh to an isolated place near the canal and killed him with sharp edged weapons”, said Senior police officer.
