Pb on a roll, bags 6 golds in karate, judo
Mehak Jain Ludhiana: Having won four gold medals in karate, two in judo and thrashing Orissa in football pool match, Punjab seemed to be on a roll on the third day of the 67th National School Games, being conducted by the school education department at Punjab Agricultural University. At PAU football ground 1, Punjab defeated Orissa 2-0 in a pool match competition. The first goal for the Punjab team was scored by Harshdeep Kaur while the second goal was scored by Palak Suman of Jalandhar. The IBSO registered an impressive win over Karnataka 5-0 while Chhattisgarh defeated CISCE by 2-0. Maharashtra claimed a power-packed 9-0 win over Telangana.The match between Rajasthan and Chandigarh ended in a tie at PAU ground 2.West Bengal thrashed Vidya Bharti with an impressive score of 17-0. Madhya Pradesh defeated Jammu Kashmir 1-0 in the second pool match. At sports ground 3, which is at Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar, Kerala outplayed Uttarakhand 1-0. The second match played between Uttar Pradesh and Delhi ended in a draw. Gujarat snatched victory from CBSE by 4-0. 4 golds in karateSix U-19 karate competitions were held on Monday, including three for boys and three for girls. Boys competed in the categories of U-66 kg,U-82 kg and over 82 kg, while girls vied for top honours in U-32 kg, U-48 kg and U-64 kg categories.The Punjab team won 4 gold medals in U-64 kg (girls), U-48 kg (girls), U-66 kg (boys) and U-82 kg (boys). Punjab has also one silver in above 82 kg category.In U-64 girls’ category, Ananya Rao of Punjab defeated Astha Patel of Gujarat to secure the first place. Anmol Giri of Madhya Pradesh secured the third position. In U-48 girls’ category, Mehak of Punjab won the gold medal. Mahak of Uttar Pradesh won the silver while Bhumika Patel of Vidya Bharti and Lekshmi V R of Kerala both shared bronze medals. Tanisi Das of Assam outplayed Femidha Hajathu of Kerala in the U-32 category. Kangiri Bhavya Sri from Telangana and Vaishanavi Singh of CISCE shared the third position.Among boys, Punjab’s Arshdeep won the gold medal in the U-66 kg category, defeating Ronak Mehral of Delhi. While Tamil Nadu’s Sudarshan and Haryana's Gajesh Kumar won the bronze medals. In U-82 category, Punjab’s Vinayak Mohan and Harsh Jangra of Haryana secured the top two positions, respectively, while Gopathi Vignesh of Telangana and Hrishikesh Kalita won bronze. 2 golds, 3 silvers in judoOf total six U-17 judo competitions, three were held for boys and three for girls. While boys competed in U-50 kg, U-55 kg and over 90 kg, girls gave their best in the U-52 kg, U-53 kg and U-70 kg categories. The Punjab team won two gold in U-50 kg boys’ and U-55 kg boys’ categories, three silver in U-52 kg, U-53 kg and U-70 kg girls and one bronze in over 90 kg boys.
