PATIALA: Police booked eight persons under sections of IPC for allegedly attacking two cops who were on police patrolling duty in Patiala district. The police claimed to have nabbed three of eight accused and got their two days police remand.
The injured cops have been identified as home-guards Kamaldeep Singh and Narinderpal Singh who in their complaint had alleged that they were attacked by the accused near Kaurjiwala turn at Nabha road on Tuesday.
The police have identified the accused as Gurvinder Singh, Happy Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Mithu Singh, Sattu Singh, all of Pasiana block, accused Akashdeep Singh of Rajpura, Daler Singh of Sanaur and one unidentified. They are booked under IPC sections including an attempt to murder, voluntary causing hurt and criminal assault on a public servant, discharging public servant to perform his duty, rioting, criminal intimidation, violation of curfew orders and sections 51 of the Disaster Management Act 2005.
The cops had allegedly questioned the accused for violating the curfew orders and consuming liquor at the roadside while sitting in their car and a few sitting on their bike following which heated arguments took place between the cops and the accused.
The police added that the accused Gurwinder had pelted stones on home-guard Kamaldeep and also hit cop Narinderpal’s head on the floor. The police said that both the cops are admitted in government Rajindra hospital and undergoing treatment.
“Both our cops including home-guards Kamaldeep Singh and Narinderpal Singh are stable in condition but still hospitalized. We have arrested three accused including Gurvinder Singh, Happy Singh and Gurpreet Singh while the hunt for others is on. We have got two days police remand of the arrested accused. They had attacked the police team while they were heavily drunk”, said station house officer Bakshiwala police station.
