Ludhiana: A car parked on a roadside near the bus stand caught fire on Thursday afternoon. Fortunately, the owner had gone to a nearby shop when the incident occurred. Commuters who saw the car in flames informed the fire brigade.
The fire brigade controlled the flames in almost 20 minutes. Before the arrival of fire brigade, people also pushed another car to a safe location.
According to the information, the fire call was received around 2.05 pm at the central fire station. A fire tender was rushed to the spot. The engine, front seats and interior of car were completely damaged in the incident.
Fireman
Pankaj Sharma said, “The car belonged to Harjit Singh who had gone to a shop just 10 minutes before the car caught fire. We do now know the exact reason behind the fire. It might be due to some short circuit.”
Meanwhile, it could have been a major mishap as the area is among the busiest due to the presence of bus stand. Sub-fire officer Navrang Singh said, “The reason behind fire in new cars might be loose wiring or modifications in the internal system. Sometimes people get lights or sirens installed and wires are not up to the mark which cause problems when car engine heats up.” He said for the old cars heating is the primary reason behind fire so car owners should get service of cars on a regular basis and if they are getting anything installed from outside they should check quality of wires. Car owners should also keep small fire extinguishers in their vehicles as a precaution.
