Out for night ride, 4 friends killed

LUDHIANA: Out for a ride late on Friday night, four youths, including a brother-sister duo, were killed when their car plunged into Sidhwan Canal after crashing into the railings of a bridge at BRS Nagar.


The incident occurred around 11pm near the MC zone D office. The police said the accident occurred due to overspeeding.

The deceased were identified as Kashish Arora, a BCom final year student from Model Town Extension; Devesh Chandra of Lucknow who had come to the city for an IELTS exam; Bhavneet Juneja and his sister Sanya Juneja of Phase-II Dugri.

According to the autopsy, all the youths died of drowning.

Sanya knew Devesh since her Delhi days when she was pursuing fashion designing. Devesh was staying at Sanya’s house. Sources said the four had gone out to give Devesh a night tour of the city.

Four friends, all aged between 20 to 24, were travelling in an i20 car. While other parked their cars at Gol market in Model Town, they opted for Kashish’s car for the ride.

The car was travelling from BRS Nagar to Sarabha Nagar when it crashed into the railings at BRS Nagar bridge and fell into the canal.

The police and onlookers helped bring the four youths out of the car and took them to a hospital where they were declared dead. A crane was pressed into service to pull out the car from the canal.

Police said the youths had informed their parents that they are going out of a ride. They left the house around 11pm and met somewhere in Model Town. From there, they drove off in i20 car (PB 10 FP 1500) of Kashish. After preliminary investigation, the police said Kashish was driving the car.
