Notices issued over bylaws violation
LUDHIANA: Notices have been served on owners of two buildings near Fountain chowk on College Road, asking them to deposit documents relating to the constructions. The notices have been issued by the building branch zone D of the municipal corporation. The initial notices were issued on December 24 and a week was given for the reply. Businesses running in these buildings include Jain jewellers, Palace jewellers and Sita Ram sweet shop.

Although Palace jewellers had replied within time, two others did not do so.
Notices were sent out on basis of a complaint by a resident who had informed the MC that there wasn't any parking facility in the basement of these buildings which led to traffic snarls with people parking their vehicles in the area near these places.
Assistant town planner (ATP) Rajinder Sharma has once again issued notices and given three days to the owners to file the reply. It is to be noted that MC has limited its exercise only to sending notices to offenders who violate building bylaws.
Sources said that if no reply is received in the three-day period, zonal commissioner of (zone D) Devinder Singh would seek an action. Interestingly, Devinder had issued a showcause notice to Rajinder Sharma a few days ago for having failed to take action. Meanwhile, an inquiry report against a building which houses jewellery showroom "Kalyan jewellers" on Rani Jhansi Road has stated gross violations. Copy of report has been sent to commissioner Rahul Tewari who would direct further action.
Sources said the building housing Kalyan jewellers was constructed by clubbing two buildings which were approved on different maps. "This is total violation of building bylaws. Action could be taken on directions of the commissioner," said sources. Commissioner Rahul Tewari said action would be taken after documents are scrutinized.
