LUDHIANA: Northern railway authorities are all set to start another deluxe train for the commuters of northern and eastern railways on the first week of July. The new train —Special Humsafar Express (22317/22318)— will run form Sealdah (Kolkata) and Jammu-Tawi via major stations of Ferozpur Division including business city Ludhiana.
This is the second luxury train which will pass through city’s railway station as another deluxe train, Humsafar Express (22705/22706) is already running between Jammu-Tawi and Tirupati.
Inaugurated in June last year, it is also a pitch-in service by northern railway authorities, to make travelling in train more convenient.
Just like Humsafar Express, the Special Humsafar Express will have fire alarm and smoke detection systems and CCTV facility. Apart from this, machines for preparing tea, coffee and milk on board will also be installed in coaches. Also, there will be facilities of bio-toilets, charging points for electronic devices, announcement system, side curtains on the corridors, refrigerating box and heating chamber to keep store food at temperatures required.
Ludhiana station director, Abhinav Singla said, “Earlier in the month of October last year, the northern railway authorities had started this express train for the convenience of the passengers of Ferozpur division. However, some technical glitch had halted its service, which will now be started on july 3 again.”
The Special Humsafar Express (22317/22318) will depart from Sealdah station at 3.20pm on every Monday and will reach Jammu-Tawi at 11.30pm the next day. On every Wednesday it will depart from Jammu-Tawi station at 7.25am to reach Sealdah at 5.45pm the next day. The train comprising 18 coaches will halt at Asansol, Dhanbad, Gaya, Mughalsarai, Varanasi, Lucknow, Bareilly and Moradabad, Saharnpur, Ambala and Ludhiana stations.
Meanwhile, Ferozepur division of northern railways, that caters to 262 stations of Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and parts of Himachal Pradesh, had also started two Antyodaya Express trains in November last year.
One of the Antyodaya Express (22551/2252) has been running between Darbhanga (Bihar) and Jalandhar City and and the other (22895/22896) between Bilaspur (Chhatisgarh) and Ferozepur.
Antyodaya Express trains are designed to carry passengers who travel in unreserved coaches and are hence known as general coaches attached with bio-toilets.
