Ludhiana: A major fire broke out at a factory/residence in Bandeyan Mohalla near Daal Bazaar on Monday morning. The factory owner and his mother, who were inside the unit when the fire broke out, had a narrow escape. The fire brigade found it difficult to reach the unit, which is situated in a narrow lane. Eventually, fire officials used water pipes from Daresi, where the fire tenders were stationed. They took over three hours to bring the blaze under control.Fire officials said that after they received information at around 8.56am, fire tenders rushed to the spot, but resorted to the use of pipes from Daresi in view of the narrow lane. Fire tenders were stationed on Daresi Road, and according to officials, at least 1,200 to 1,300 feet pipes were used to control the fire. Firemen said that the garment unit was located on the ground floor, while the owner resided on the first and second floors.Factory owner Amit Chopra said that he noticed the flames on the ground floor when he woke up in the morning. He added that he first got his mother out safely but by then, the fire had spread throughout the building, and flames were visible from afar. He said that though the fire brigade managed to douse the flames, he faced significant losses as even household goods were gutted.Leading fireman, Rajinder Singh, said, "The fire was brought under control in three hours, and at least six fire tenders were used to control the flames. Luckily, there was no casualty or injury to anyone."The area where the unit is located mostly has congested lanes and old houses.
