LUDHIANA: Members of Muslim community continued to protest against CAA and NRC and organised a candle march against the act here on Thursday evening. The protestors also raised slogans for ‘Freedom from NRC, CAA, and Corruption’, and vouched for communal harmony. The protest started from Shahpur Road and passed through Brown Road, Kalgidhar

Gurdwara

Road, and Jail Road to culminate at Jagraon Bridge.

Naib

Shahi Imam

, Muhammad Usman Ludhianvi, said members of other communities also participated in the candle march. He added that the march received great response, and it was intended to give a message of ‘no’ to CAA and NRC.

Shahi Imam (Punjab) Maulana Habib-ur-Rehman said it was for the first time that a black law was made in the country, and it had badly affected the country’s image abroad. He added that in South Africa, UK, and Arab countries, people had come out on the streets to protest against it, but despite that, the government was adamant on its stand. The head priest alleged that it was the government’s plan to pitch Muslims against

Hindu

brothers, but they were wise enough to maintain communal harmony. He added that this was a new fight for freedom.

The Shahi Imam thanked members of different communities, including Sikhs, Hindus, and Christians for supporting them in their fight against CAA and NRC.
