LUDHIANA: With the alleged misbehaviour of a municipal corporation official with a woman employee in the same office, chinks have appeared in the measures applied by the municipal corporation (MC) to protect its women staff working at different offices of the civic body. While the entire world celebrates
Women's Day on Saturday (March 8) as a mark of respect to the fairer sex, the MC has failed to provide security to its female staff.
An enquiry was marked on October 12, after the girl complained to the higher MC officials that her senior had misbehaved with her. The victim was an employee on a contractual basis who worked at the computer section in the office of Deputy Controller Finance and Accounts (DCFA). On October 8, she complained to the then additional commissioner Isha Kalia regarding the matter, after which an inquiry was marked on October 12. The committee formed to look into the case was supposed to complete the inquiry within a week and take appropriate action in the matter, but nothing has been done so far, even five months after the committee was formed.
Meanwhile, MC commissioner Shruti Singh said: "I was not aware of such an incident, but now I will look into the matter and solve it as soon as possible. Safety of women is a must."
