LUDHIANA: The Municipal Corporation plans to gift a library to children on the occasion of Children's Day. The civic body will renovate the MC library at Children's Park in Model Town and dedicate it to children.
Municipal commissioner GK Singh said this is aimed at social development and inculcation of the reading habit among children. He also said a committee has been formed under the leadership of additional commissioner Amrit Kaur Gill, which will submit a detailed report for the library in two days.
Authorities plan to install a projector in the library through which they will spread social messages through cartoon films. According to Singh, children will inaugurate the library.
This is part of the MC's work on improving the condition of libraries. Recently, they moved the MC library running in Zone C in a dilapidated building to Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan. Now, they will renovate the library at Children's park.Additional commissioner Amrit Kaur Gill said they are also considering having puppets and toys in the library to attract more children.
Residents welcomed the move saying it would encourage children to read and enhance their knowledge. Gagandeep Kaur, a resident of Model Town, said children don't have a place to read in the city and if the MC comes up with a library it will provide them a great opportunity to learn.
