Many irregularities tumble out
LUDHIANA: Thursday's clash between two student groups that led to firing on Kamla Lohtia Sanatan Dharam College has opened a Pandora's box of irregularities in the college admissions.
Leaders of the rival groups - Ashwini Kumar and Karan Joshi - who have been fighting to assume the position of self-styled president of student body, gave false information sworn on affidavits submitted with the college for admissions.

On Friday, accused leader Karan Joshi was suspended and the college observed a no teaching day.
College director B D Budhiraja admitted to security lapses on their end. "During the scrutiny of admission documents of Ashwini Kumar and Karan Joshi many irregularities have been found. A four-member inquiry committee has been set up to look into the incident," he added. According to documents, both students were given provisional admission by the college. After passing Class XII in second division Ashwini Kumar, popularly known as Ashwini Chaudhary, first took admission in the college on July 15, 2010 in BA-I. He was roll number 1860. Though he attended classes, Kumar missed the exams.
On August 6, 2011, he again took admission in BA-I and was roll number 1871. During the admission he didn't show a character certificate so he was given provisional admission. He also submitted an affidavit declaring that after Class XII he had dropped a year due to financial constraints and wanted admission in BA-I. Kumar concealed information about being a student of the same college in the previous year and the authorities did not verify.

On the other hand, Karan Joshi took admission in BA-I on August 4, 2011. He was also given provisional admission because he did not submit a detail marks card (DMC) of Class XII. All he submitted was a copy of the gazette. Joshi also submitted an affidavit stating that after passing Class XII in 2008, he took a break of three years without taking admission anywhere. He was roll number 1860.
The inquiry committee will find out how he was given provisional admission based on a gazette after a gap of three years. According to norms, he should have submitted the DMC.
ONLY POLITICS ON MIND
The admission forms of Ashwini Kumar and Karan Joshi suggest that they had only politics on their minds. Ashwini had crossed out columns for NSS or Youth Welfare Club, sports options, society he wishes to join. Karan left all columns blank
NOT STUDENTS
College director B D Budhiraja said accused Sharanjeet Singh is not a student of the institute and neither is Prabhjit Singh, who was injured. Prabjit was on campus to visit Ashwini Kumar
PLANNED CLASH
The brawl and firing on campus was a well planned conspiracy. On August 30, wires of two CCTV cameras installed near gates were disconnected. None of the college authorities knew when and how these cameras, which are installed near the place where the brawl ensued on Thursday, stopped working. August 31 was a holiday for Eid and the clash happened on September 1.
