LUDHIANA: He started cycling to motivate his sons but couldn't part with the fun of pedalling and took it up as a daily exercise. Vikas Kohli, 40, pedals around his favorite locations in the city along with his two sons- Piyush, a student in Class VIII, and Sanyam, who is in Class VII.
Kohli, a businessman and a resident of Sarabha Nagar, owns two Firefox cycles, a Bad Attitude, that is used by him and a Dat 2.6 used by his sons.
"Piyush accompanies me more often when I go cycling through Punjab Agricultural University and South City as these areas have a lot of greenery by the road side and one really enjoys cycling amidst nature,'' he said.
Kohli had given up the habit of cycling after school days and had moved on to using cars as every grown up man does. "But, the love for pedals has rekindled now,'' he quipped.
Kohli uses his cycle to go to the market and other near by areas and if its a Sunday, he doesn't mind cycling around for all the house hold work.
An avid cyclist, Vikas Kohli, said: "In the evening I go out cycling with my sons as I want them to use cycles rather than develope a taste for cars and swanky motorbikes."
The elder of the two boys, Piyush, has developed a good stamina while measuring the distances beside his father. This is going to help them concentrate better in studies, the father said.
Its his dream that he could use a cycle to commute to his factory at Focal Point, but the bad roads and the traffic situation is the biggest impediment as far as using a cycle is concerned. "However, if a separate lane for cycles is constructed in the city, I will be the first one to use a cycle for commuting to office,'' he said.
Kohli added that cycling keeps a person fit, healthy and one simply bubbles with energy. He has shed some weight since his feet stuck to pedals again and would lose some more in the coming future, said Kohli, with a broad smile as he wiped the sweat on his forehead.
