Ludhiana: Young athletes dazzled at the Ludhiana District Athletics Association's annual open district meet, wrapping up Tuesday at Guru Nanak Stadium's track with standout wins in hurdles, sprints and field events across age groups from under-12 to seniors.
The two-day event drew competitors in under-12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 23 and senior categories for men and women, showcasing raw talent amid enthusiastic crowds. In the under-16 boys' 80-meter hurdles, Dev Yadav took gold, Harman Singh silver and Yashmit Sharma and Sukhdeep Singh shared bronze. Anushka Sharma won the girls' race, followed by Angel and Heena.

Jashandeep Kaur claimed gold in the under-18 girls' 100-meter hurdles, with Pehal second and Gurleen third. Gurmeet Singh topped the under-20 boys' 110-meter hurdles, ahead of Hardeep Kumar and Barinder Singh. Karandeep Singh Sidhu sped to victory in the under-18 boys' 200 meters, followed by Aaradhya and Ramdyal Singh. Gurleen Kaur won the girls' equivalent, with Mandeep Kaur and Lakshveer Kaur next.
Simratvir Singh led the under-20 boys' 200 meters, outpacing Ranveer Singh Bassi and Sudhakar Singh. Raveena took gold in the girls' race, with Raunakpreet Kaur silver and Dhriti bronze.
Mohit won the under-23 boys' 200 meters, ahead of Harmanjit Singh and Jashandeep Singh. Mehak Sharma topped the women's 200, followed by Yagini and Kuljeet Kaur. Kishan Lal Sonkar dominated the 10,000 meters, with Harshvardan Mehta second and Aditya Thakur third.
In field events, Sahibpreet Singh won under-18 boys' discus, followed by Harman Singh Baath and Ritish Sharma. Kulraj Sahota threw farthest in the under-20 boys' discus, ahead of Gurfateh Singh and Vanshdeep Singh. Satbir Singh Atwal, IPS officer and president of the Punjab and Ludhiana District Athletics Association, said he felt overwhelmed by the enthusiastic turnout from younger age groups.
